Geographic Objects Extraction Combining Fuzzy Logic and High Resolution RGB Image

F. Z. Fadhli, N. I. Bachari

Abstract

This paper presents a fast methodology of geographic objects extraction from satellite high spatial resolution imagery, which is based on the color characteristics of the object. The main classes extracted are sea surface, road network, coast line, building roof, bare soil, and vegetation. The fuzzy logic is used to transform naked eye observations into rules of decisions and a fuzzy mathematical morphology is prior applied to unify the texture of geographic object and to eliminate useless segments that obstruct extraction. The method is tested on IKONOS imagery of 4 meter resolution.
