A Genetic Algorithm for Reconstruction under Periodicity Constraints

Discrete tomography or image reconstruction from the small number of projections is a new field as compared to the classic computerized tomography which uses more than hundred projections. Since the number of projections is small hence the number of solutions will be large, so some extra information other than projections is required to reduce the solution space. Periodicity constraints are such type of information which is used in this paper. This is a natural constraint in the crystalline solid object. Image reconstruction from projections is NP-hard problem if the number of projections used for reconstruction process is greater than two. Genetic algorithm can be used to solve such type of problems which is not solvable in polynomial time. Stability problem in discrete tomography also arise due to noisy projections. Genetic algorithm is used to handle image reconstruction from noisy projections.
