Image Compression Method Using Subband Eigenvectors Decomposition

In this study, we present a new image compression method based on an additive presentation in the form of subband components that are completely defined by fragments of the Fourier transform of the images from two-dimensional subdomains of spatial frequencies. We show that these components can be presented by using subband matrices. For compression, we propose a method to exclude subband components (called non-information components) and decompose the remaining information components via the eigenvectors of subband matrices, as well as level-quantization of ratios of these decompositions. Based on our computational experiments, we further show that our proposed method has distinct
advantages over the well-known JPEG and JPEG2000 methods.
