Diagnosis of brain is difficult due to the overlap of symptoms across different tissue region. The diagnosis is carried out in a brain MRI image for its greater characteristics than others. Noise removal from MRI is the important task. Bilateral filtering known for its effectiveness in edge preserved image denoising. The noise is detached by bilateral filter. In this paper, an iterative method is used for segmenting the brain image into three tissue classes using Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm. The results which proved to be more accurate segmentation by EM.
