Reconfigurable Communication System for Dynamic Capacity Increase: Model to Contain Congestible Traffics

O. T. Jinadu, A. H. Aliu

Design of application oriented communication system is partially dependent on transmit signal type and implemented technology. Existing communication systems in information technology is threatened by congestion menace due to enormous transports through World Wide Web every clock moment. Inherent packet loss is predominant in congested networks and existing radio technologies limits effective interoperations among network. Also, the diverse wireless technologies used for Internet access and other stream-traffic services adversely contributes to congestion threat. In this research, Reconfigurable Communication System (RCS) is envisioned with Cognitive Radio Technology (CRT) to integrate existing wireless networks and also address the challenges of congested traffic and spectrum underutilization. These bottlenecks can be contained if hosts are dynamically re-constructed graphically based on emergent application need in communicating environ. The periodic scans and monitors by CR over idle bands for opportunistic access ease out congestible traffics and resultant technique of CR spectrum sharing will complement proposed model’s ability to change traffic pattern dynamically. Anticipated congestion will be contained and the model will facilitate smooth interoperability. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Accesses (OFDMA) technique and Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) by CR will cause dynamic shaping of traffic to handle emergencies since CRN presented as Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN) offers no restriction to broadband access. Congestion is therefore managed (contained) by the RCS and associated CRT, which provides sufficient broadband capacity for emergent communication needs of public safety networking.
