Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products in Compliance with the Circular Economy: What are the Future Challenges for EU Member States?

Abstract



The article deals with the issue on how adjust the current resource and waste management concept to the new circular economy paradigm. Attempts are made to describe the future challenges for EU member states in the field of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) management that follow immediately from “Closing the loop – An EU action plan for the Circular Economy”. Circular economy foundations, strategies for product life extension and product recycling as well as business models of their implementation are examined in the article. It briefly highlighted the supposed content of future challenges, which are differentiated by the issues of slowing-oriented resource loops and closing-oriented resource loops.
