Optimization for Multi-channel Acquisition Scheme with Oversampling Method

Chengqun Chu, Yongfeng Ren, Xin Liu, Yongqiu Zheng

Abstract

A compact and flexible multi-channel acquisition system based on Field programmable gate array (FPGA) for heterogeneous input signals is proposed in the paper. A single high speed 16-bit analogue to digital converter (ADC) with several multiplexers is used for the digitization of the input analogue signals. An efficient sampling scheme to perform simultaneous acquisition for the multi-channel acquisition system with different bandwidths is proposed to optimize the ADC sampling rate. The scheme uses the internal resource in FPGA to establish a sampling lookup table according to the sampling scheme. The paper also describes an improved method by utilizing oversampling technology to improving the resolution. A dc signal is applied to complete the performance test by using the noise histogram method. The comparison showed that the method can effectively reduce the root mean square (RMS) noise and improve the resolution. With its flexibility in reconfiguration, the proposed system will be applicable to many applications with amounts of inputs.
