Vulnerability Analysis on Subway Network: A Case Study

With the rapid development of the economy and the accelerated urbanization process, the subway plays a more and more critical role in today's world, in both developed and developing countries. Subway network is the most effective solution for relieving traffic congestion in large cities. In this paper, we investigated the Beijing 2015 planned subway network, in china, via the complex network theory and Space L modeling approach. Several critical parameters were selected to analyze and measure the topology vulnerability. The ratio of removed nodes is discussed and quantitatively compared in two attack strategies, meanwhile, the critical threshold of the fraction is 0.07-0.1. The research indicates that Beijing 2015 planned subway network is robust against random attacks but vulnerable to malicious attacks. Network efficiency was proposed to assess the vulnerability of subway network. In the quantization of vulnerability, both betweeness and degree need to be comprehensively considered, because parameter value and its influence are not absolutely positively correlated.
