An improved surface tension and wall adhesion model for free-surface flows in the lattice Boltzmann method

Yang Yu, Li Chen, Jianhua Lu, Guoxiang Hou

Abstract

Free-surface flows are common in nature and play a very important role in many engineering applications, such as water waves, etching and casting processes. In this paper, a conservative surface tension and wall adhesion model for the lattice Boltzmann single phase free-surface method is developed to improve the applicability of the existing model. Some numerical cases-the deformation of a square droplet, flows induced by wall adhesion and surface tension, and filling processes in a 2D cavity-are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the current model. Results show that the surface tension and wall adhesion model in present study can simulate surface tension isotropically and achieve desired wetting properties by setting static contact angles.
