Measure of Departure from Symmetry based on Entropy for Square Contingency Tables with Nominal Categories

Kouji Tahata, Shunsuke Akinaga, Sadao Tomizawa

Abstract

For square contingency tables with nominal categories, Tomizawa, Seo and Yamamoto (1998) considered a measure to represent the degree of departure from symmetry based on the Patil-Taillie diversity index. The present paper proposes
a measure to represent the degree of departure from symmetry based on the Arimoto entropy. The proposed measure would be useful for comparing the degree of departure from symmetry in several tables.
