Ant-Based Routing Algorithms in Mobile Ad hoc Networks

Abstract

A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a set of mobile nodes without the required intervention of any centralized access point. Therefore, mobile ad-hoc networks are suitable for temporary communication links. The network topology in MANETs usually changes with time. Hence, there are new challenges for routing. Nature-inspired algorithms (swarm intelligence) such as Ant Colony Optimization algorithms have shown to be a good method for expanding routing
algorithms for MANETs. Several algorithms which are based on ant colony optimization are introduced in recent years to solve the routing problem in MANET. In this paper, the existing ant-based routing algorithms for mobile ad hoc networks presented and compared.
