Sample Allocation Between Domains and Strata

Marcin Kozak, Andrzej Zieliński

Abstract

The paper contains considerations on a sample allocation between domains and strata in the domains. Three various
allocation questions are introduced: (i) domain-orientated sample allocation subject to fixed survey cost; (ii) sample allocation subject to constraints connected with domain precisions; and (iii) sample allocation minimizing precision of estimation for the population subject to constraints connected with domain precisions. The appropriate optimization problems and analytical solutions for the allocation are proposed. Examples of an application of the allocations are presented for the artificial population generated basing on a real forestry survey.

Keywords

stratified sampling, estimation for domains, optimum sample allocation
