The Double Truncated Dagum Distribution with Applications

Abstract



We propose a new distribution named a double truncated Dagum distribution which is more flexible than many well-known distributions. We present some of its mathematical properties including quantile, survival, hazard rate functions, skewness, kurtosis, and order statistics. The method of maximum likelihood to estimate the model parameters is discussed and the behavior of maximum likelihood estimator is studied. The importance of the new distribution is illustrated by means of the two data sets and the capability in modeling data is evaluated. The results indicate that the new distribution can provide better fits than many distributions in the literature. Therefore, the double truncated Dagum distribution can be a good alternative for several distributions in applications.
