Optimized Multi-resolution Edge Preserving and Image Enhancement Algorithm for Direct Digital Radiography
Abstract
Digital radiography is a popular diagnostic imaging method. Generally the images are associated with noise. An optimized edge preserving contrast enhancement and Noise reduction method for digital radiography is developed. The image is initially decomposed. Contrast improvement is achieved by modifying the coefficients obtained from this image. Small coefficient values represent subtle details are amplified to improve their visibility. The coefficient values are reduced without much information loss. Image enhancement achieved is according to the radiologist requirement to visualize the diagnostic information which is achieved by introducing optimization parameters during decomposition and reconstruction of the images. Our statistical analysis clearly shows that the data loss after processing the images is minimum and the contrast enhancement is good.
