Testing on the Reciprocal of a Mean in a Normal Distribution

W. Panichkitkosolkul, N. Meedech

Abstract

Two tests for the reciprocal of a normal mean are proposed in this paper. One of the proposed tests was based on a normal approximation. The other proposed test is based on a Student's t approximation. The empirical type I errors and power performance of these tests were studied by means of a Monte Carlo simulation under different settings. Simulation results showed that the test based on the Student's t approximation performed more efficiently in terms of empirical type I errors and powers. The test procedures are illustrated using an example.
