Forest Bio-diversity and peoples Participation- A Case Study

Abstract


The Tamilnadu Afforestation programme (TAP) was launched in 1997-98 with the assistance of the Overseas Economic Corporation Fund, Japan for a period of five years. This present study was made on TAP in six villages of Usilampatti forest range on Madurai District in TamilNadu. The importance and vitality of peoples’ participation in conserving Forest Bio Diversity loss and ensuring the regeneration of forests through Afforestation Programme has been explained through the results of Factor Analysis. Among the ten factors to assess Peoples’ participation in Afforestation programme,participation on ongoing activities, contribution of resource and decision making were identified as three important important factors.
