Transient Fault Location for 10kv Distribution System Using Line Voltage and Zero-module Current

Qiao Zhanjun, Li Fuling, Li Yong

A new method using line voltage and zero-module current is presented in order to solve the fault location problem of single-phase grounding fault in neutral point non-effectively grounded distribution system. The method is realized through the feeder automation system and does not require additional equipment. The characteristics of transient line voltage after Hilbert transformation and transient zero-module current calculated by the feeder terminal unit are analyzed in this paper as the parameter of fault direction. The fault section is located through master station according to opposite polarity of direction parameter before and after fault point. And the algorithm of detecting single-phase grounding fault and confirming the fault phase is introduced as well. Results of digital simulation and experiment have demonstrated that this method has higher sensitivity and reliability and it is free from the influences of Petersen coil and unstable arc.
