Median Estimation with Known Interquartile Range of Auxiliary Variable

Housila P. Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Sidhu, Sarjinder Singh

Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to develop asymptotic theory for the situation when the interquartile range of an auxiliary variable is known in addition to the median of the auxiliary variable with a focus on the estimation of the median of a study variable. This paper covers the gap or need of such estimators in the literature and where use of such estimators will be beneficial in future due to fast computer generations. A very limited empirical study has also been carried out to demonstrate the merits of the suggested estimators over others.

Keywords

Population median, Interquartile range, Bias, Mean square error.
